The Mayor of Riga, Nill Ushakov commented on searches in a corruption case
Place: Riga, Latvia
The mayor of Riga, Nil Ushakov, declared his innocence after the searches in his office and at his place of residence, carried out by the Bureau for the Prevention and Combating of Corruption. “The most important thing that I want to say to voters who, one and a half years ago, in the elections supported our list and me personally - I did not commit any illegal actions,” sad Ushakov. The mayor stressed that no charges were brought against him, and he continues to work as usual. He also noted the high professionalism of the staff of the Bureau on preventing and combating corruption. In mid-December, Latvian President Raimonds Vejonis called on Ushakov to resign amid the corruption scandal.
