Event description
In Lithuanian pharmacies, iodine tablets are handed out to visitors in case of an accident at the Ostrovets nuclear power plant in Belarus. The Lithuanian presidential administration reports that Minsk ignores nuclear safety issues and did not implement the recommendations of stress tests. Belarus says it plans to connect the first block of the station to the country's energy system at the end of this year, and the station should start operating at full capacity in February 2021. The Lithuanian government claims that the BelNPP was built without observing safety and environmental protection requirements.
